Competitors

Competitors are the brands that show up instead of you when AI answers questions about your category. Tracking them lets you measure your Share of Voice and see who you are losing to.

Why Competitors Matter

When someone asks an AI assistant for "best running shoes for marathon training" and it recommends Competitor A, Competitor B and Competitor C but not Example Brand, those three brands are your competitors in that answer. Knowing who keeps appearing in your place is the first step to changing it.

Competitor tracking powers Share of Voice (your share of the mentions among the brands you track) and benchmarking (how your visibility compares with theirs over time).

Where You Manage Them

Open Settings › Brands & competitors. The page lists your tracked brand and your competitors, and lets you search them by name, domain or alias.

How They Start

During setup, a live check against AI assistants suggests the rivals they name in your market, and you keep the ones that matter, remove the rest and add any that are missing (see Quickstart). You can change the list at any time.

Managing Competitors

  • Add: track any brand you want, including one AI has not named yet
  • Edit: update the name, the tracked names or the domains as the brand changes
  • Delete: remove a competitor that is no longer relevant

Why Tracked Names Matter

AI assistants refer to a brand in different ways. A response might say "Competitor B", "Competitor B Shoes" or "CompB", all meaning the same brand. Tracked names tell A2ZReach that every variation is one competitor.

Without them, a mention under a different name could be missed, which would understate that competitor's Share of Voice. The more variations you list, the better the match.

What Competitors Power

Every time a tracked prompt is checked, A2ZReach looks in the answer for mentions of you and of each competitor. That gives you:

  • Share of Voice: across your answers, your mentions compared with each competitor's
  • Topic-level gaps: you may do well on "trail running" but lose on "marathon training", and competitor data shows where to focus
  • Trend lines: whether a competitor is gaining ground, and whether your work is closing the gap

Without competitors defined, visibility is just a number. With them, it's a competitive map.
